Our Van Gained Some Plumage
Apostle Islands in on the upper shore of Wisconsin has been gaining some popularity online from pictures of its ice caves. It hadn’t really occurred to us until we arrived that we were in the same place until we entered the visitor center to pics of the park as a winter wonderland. Some great hiking nonetheless, and it looked quite fun for the kayaks poking around the shoreline!
Quickly drifting into Copper County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we found it quite packed with great museums about the copper mining and immigration to the area. Also some nice little hikes with waterfalls that Kate could pose in front of:
We moved on to a secluded pebble beach that we didn’t spend nearly enough time at. Only one night meant only one day of skipping rocks for Harper to watch, and one gorgeous sunset to pose in front of.
We were on a bit of a time schedule, and with less camping availability we realized to be economical we’d have to plan our sleeping situation a bit more carefully. Our next stop was Green Bay, where we stayed in the driveway of a new friend that we met on couchsurfing.com. He pointed us toward the good beach to visit in Door County, Wisconsin. I was able to pose on this beach, so it was indeed good.
Even more fun was that his friend, Matt Bero, a local artist known for his large moose mural was free to do some decorating to the van! We even had space for him to upgrade our plumage in front of his larger and more impressive mural:
Being a few months out from this cool addition, I can say it’s definitely given us more attention than I was expecting!
On our way through the state to a baby shower, we made one final stop in the Dells and Devil’s Lake State Park. The park had quite a large hiking system and some neat rock formations. Like this archway that I could pose in:
And this platform to pose on:
And this balancing rock for Kate to pose beside. Devil’s Lake is the biggest (and oldest) state park in Wisconsin!
